Nel Hydrogen's 135 MW Glomfjord electrolyzer plant, 1953-1991
Western ElectroFuels Association promotes and fosters using renewable electricity to produce climate-neutral hydrogen and other energy-intensive products to supplant fossil fuel consumption.
Why This, Why Now?
As the West moves to increase its reliance on renewable energy, surpluses of renewable electricity will also rise in frequency and intensity. Along with that, the incidence of curtailed renewable generation and negative wholesale market prices will also increase. Electrofuel project deployments in Europe have caused the cost of electrolyzer technologies to drop. In short, the need for this technology is rising at the same time that the costs are dropping. A trade association can help pave the way for these technologies that hasten cost-effective deployments that will lower the cost of addressing climate change.
